Free SAT practice tests (2026): every free full-length option, and the order to take them
There are more free full-length Digital SAT practice tests than most students realize. The official ones come first: College Board's Bluebook app has free full-length adaptive practice tests, the same tests are available as PDFs for students with paper accommodations, and Khan Academy's Official SAT Prep is linked from your Bluebook results. After those, several prep companies offer one free test each, and SAT Owl has a free online adaptive test plus three printable tests. This page lists each option, what you get, and the order we'd use them in. Facts were checked on the providers' own pages in October 2026.
The short answer
Take the official Bluebook tests first, because they are the most accurate predictor of your score. College Board's help center says a practice score is "highly indicative" of your actual score, especially within a couple of weeks of the test and with the same time limits. Use non-official tests for extra full-length practice in between, once you've reviewed your Bluebook results.
Official tests from College Board
Bluebook full-length practice tests
Bluebook is the app you'll use on test day, and its practice tests are free. They use the same adaptive model as the real SAT: your first module in each section decides whether the second module is slightly harder or easier. The tests are timed like the real test, except you can move on to the next section before time runs out. Bluebook scores each test, and you can review every question, your answer, the correct answer, and an explanation in My Practice.
College Board's paper practice test page lists SAT practice tests 4 through 11 and says the same tests are free in Bluebook. That's eight full-length official tests.
What you need: a College Board account and the Bluebook app on a laptop or tablet.
Paper (PDF) versions of the official tests
The same official tests are available as PDFs on College Board's site. College Board describes them as nonadaptive and recommends them only for students who will test with paper-based accommodations. If you'll test in Bluebook, take the adaptive versions in the app instead.
Student Question Bank and Tailored Practice
These aren't full-length tests, but they're free and official. The Student Question Bank has thousands of official questions you can filter by section, domain, skill, and difficulty. After a Bluebook practice test, My Practice can generate a Tailored Practice set based on the skills you missed.
Official SAT Prep on Khan Academy
Khan Academy's Official SAT Prep is free and linked from My Practice. It has lessons, practice questions, and hints organized by skill. College Board also links to free small-group peer tutoring through Schoolhouse.world.
Free tests from prep companies
Each of these companies offers one free Digital SAT practice test. They're useful for extra timed practice, but the questions are written by the company, not College Board, so treat the score as a rough estimate.
- The Princeton Review. A free online Digital SAT practice test with adaptive sections, a built-in timer, Desmos, a reference sheet, an answer eliminator, and mark-for-review.
- Kaplan. A free digital SAT practice test with a score report by topic and answers and explanations for every question. You sign up first.
- SAT Owl (this site). A free full-length adaptive practice test in the Bluebook format: 98 questions in four timed modules (Reading and Writing 27 + 27 at 32 minutes each, Math 22 + 22 at 35 minutes each), with Module 2 set by how you did on Module 1. At the end you get a predicted score, your weakest skills, and an explanation for every question you missed. No signup is needed to start.
Free printable SAT practice tests
If you want to practice on paper, or a teacher wants a test to hand out in class, there are two free options:
- College Board's official PDF tests (nonadaptive, meant for paper accommodations).
- SAT Owl's three free printable Digital SAT practice tests. Each is a 52-page PDF with both Reading and Writing modules, both Math modules (including easier and harder second modules, so you can follow the adaptive routing yourself), an answer sheet, and an answer key. You can enter your answers at satowl.com/score to get a 400 to 1600 score and your weakest areas. The questions are original, not official College Board questions.
The order we'd use them in
Here's a plan for a student with about six weeks before the December 5 SAT (registration closes November 20):
- This week: Bluebook practice test 1. Spend at least as long reviewing it as you spent taking it.
- Weeks 1 to 2: Practice your three weakest skills with the Student Question Bank or SAT Owl's practice questions by skill.
- Week 2: One non-official full-length test (Princeton Review, Kaplan, or SAT Owl) for timing practice. Review every miss.
- Week 3: Bluebook practice test 2. Compare skill by skill with test 1.
- Weeks 3 to 5: Keep drilling the skills that are still costing you points.
- About two weeks before test day: a final Bluebook test, taken at the same time of day as the real SAT.
College Board recommends taking a practice test at least two weeks before test day and spacing tests at least two weeks apart if your schedule allows. For more on how many to take, see how many SAT practice tests should I take.
How to get the most out of a free test
- Take it in one sitting, with the real timing. A test split over two days doesn't tell you much about your stamina.
- Review every miss, including lucky guesses. For each one, write down why the wrong answer looked right. That pattern is what you fix.
- Don't retake the same test. Once you've seen the questions, the score stops meaning anything.
- Guess on everything. There's no penalty for wrong answers. College Board says it's better for most students to guess than to leave a question blank.
Frequently asked questions
How many free official SAT practice tests are there? College Board lists practice tests 4 through 11, eight in total, free in Bluebook and as PDFs.
Are non-official practice tests accurate? They're good for timing and skill practice, but the questions aren't official, so the score is an estimate. Use Bluebook tests to check your progress. See are Bluebook practice tests accurate for more.
What should I do after I've used all the Bluebook tests? Use non-official full-length tests for timing practice and the Student Question Bank or skill practice for your weak areas. Our Digital SAT practice test strategy guide has a plan.
Can I take a free SAT practice test without signing up? SAT Owl's online test and printable tests don't need an account. Bluebook needs a College Board account, and Kaplan asks you to sign up first.
