Answer: 17/3

For px2+qx+r=0px^2 + qx + r = 0, the sum of the solutions is −qp-\frac{q}{p} and the product is rp\frac{r}{p}. Here a+b=123=4a + b = \frac{12}{3} = 4 and ab=53ab = \frac{5}{3}. So ab+a+b=53+4=173ab + a + b = \frac{5}{3} + 4 = \frac{17}{3}.

Using a+b=−4a + b = -4 (forgetting the negative in −qp-\frac{q}{p}) gives −73-\frac{7}{3}.
